Shaji Prabhakaran recalls how he got into playing the sports early in life, and without a coach. "Till 18, I had no coach who could guide me. I used to imitate my seniors' style. There was no one to tell us what is right and wrong technique, training, etc.," he says.
Having earned a degree in sports, he went on to coach children, men and women. "There are specialised courses in sports these days to make one better adept at handling such needs. There are a plethora of career opportunities that come one's way if one is equipped with a degree from a recognised university. What could be better than earning a livelihood by using one's passion to the core?" he quips.
He is currently heading the Delhi Soccer Association, and as its head, he has high hopes for making Delhi a successful and model football state by the end of his four-year term in 2021. "I urge Delhiites including all the stakeholders to come forward and help me realise this dream," he adds.
