Matrimonial Cyber Fraud Busted! Delhi Cyber Police Expose Pan-India Fake Shaadi Portal Scam
A major pan-India matrimonial cyber fraud racket has been busted by the Cyber Police, Central District, following a complaint filed on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP).
According to the investigation, fraudsters allegedly used the website shaadipartner.com to target men looking for matrimonial alliances. Victims were first shown attractive profiles and photographs and were even connected through staged telephone conversations to create the impression of a genuine matchmaking service.
The fraudsters then allegedly demanded money under different pretexts, including registration charges, profile access fees, profile activation charges and contact unlocking fees. In one case, a complainant was allegedly cheated of ₹15,000.
The investigation led Delhi Cyber Police to an alleged illegal tele-calling call centre in Agra, where the police arrested the alleged manager along with eight female tele-callers. Further investigation allegedly revealed the involvement of an advocate who was accused of masterminding and financing the operation while using a proprietorship firm and other registrations as a cover.
The case highlights how cyber criminals can use fake matrimonial portals, social engineering, staged conversations and seemingly legitimate business setups to gain the trust of unsuspecting matrimonial seekers.
