Radio Dwarka attended Medi Fest 2016 at Hotel RadissonBlu recently.
Dr. Inder Kasturia, President, Indian Medical Association (IMA), Dwarka, organisers of the Fest, said, "IMA is headquartered in New Delhi and is one of the 13 branches in the Capital." IMA, Dwarka, is a recognized body and consists of representatives from the medical fraternity in the suburb. "The Dwarka branch has 350 doctors, and its executive body consists of 25 members. It takes care of all the needs of members and comes forward to help in case of any untoward incident. It is a platform where doctors can interact and exchange views, opinions and business opportunities with each other," he said.
The festival is an annual affair, he told. "IMA, Dwarka, has been organizing it for the last eight years; it is an annual get-together and has cultural events and academic sessions for the benefit of doctors and their families," Dr. Kasturia said.
Cardiologist Dr. Rajesh Madan said, "The Medi Fest is a scientific fair and had many interesting sessions, which were graced by renowned medical experts from different hospitals across the city. The day-long event started with discussions on diabetes, gastro, bone transplant, imaging modalities among many other interesting topics.
The cultural event included performances by Shwaas Fusion Band and Aasma Dance Troupe.
Dr. Piyush Ranjan, gastroenterologist, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, who spoke on latest treatments for Hepatitis B and C, common causes of liver diseases, said, "It is not humanly possible for doctors to keep track of latest development in one's area of specialization. This fest provides a platform to discuss what's new in their field with each other."
Dr. Vinod Mittal, a senior diabetologist at Delhi Heart and Lung Institute, said, "Diabetes is the mother of all problems. It affects many organs if left unattended. It is a lifestyle disease. Type 1 Diabetes is around 5%, and affects mostly children; patients are insulin-dependent, and it is a genetic issue. The remaining is Type 2 Diabetes and is a hereditary disease." He advised healthy diet, daily exercise, avoid smoking, stress and time management to keep diabetes at bay.
Dr. Karanjit Singh Narang, Associate Director-Neurosurgery, Medanta: The Medicity spoke about advancements in brain and neurosurgery while Dr. Satya Prakash Yadav spoke on bone marrow transplant and how it helps a thalassemic patient. Chest specialist Dr. Kailash advised people to take care of their lungs and follow doctor's advice in monsoons if they are asthmatic and suffer from respiratory diseases. Dr. Charu Goyal, who attended the Fest, said, "It is a great platform, and I got an opportunity to interact with so many people, learn and discuss so many relevant topics. All of us are having a very good time."
