Danseuse Par Excellence- Guru Kanaka Sudhakar | Khas Mulakaat
Guru Kanaka Sudhakar, is a senior Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi exponent who has devoted her entire life to the learning, teaching and promotion of Bharatnatyam, Kuchipudi and other dance forms. Kanaka Sudhakar is a disciple in Bharatanatyam of the Dhananjayans- Madras and Late Guru Sadasivan and a disciple of Seetha Kumari Nagajyoti in Kuchipudi. She has performed all over India and many parts of the world. Kanaka Sudhakar is also a qualified Pharmacist retired from the Delhi Administration. She established Nrityabharati, an institute for Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi in 1985. She has uptil now personally trained more than 1000 girls to perfect and understand the nuances of this art form. 60 girls of Nrityabharati have performed their Arangetram under Kanaka Sudhakar, and are now budding into full-fledged artistes. As the daughter in law of Dr. Late L. Ramachandran, she is also a keen follower of Nature cure methods. She has also done her M.A. in English Literature from Madurai Kamaraj University and Diploma in French from Delhi University. Apart from this, Kanaka is director of SUNAINA- Society for the Upliftment of National arts of India which is an NGO totally dedicated to the upliftment of Arts through women empowerment by training, SUNAINA hosts Indradhanush-Festival of Indian classical dance every year in January. SUNAINA also is engaged in education of the children of daily wagers, refugees and widows of labourers. Guru Sudhakar is doing research in the therapeutic and beneficial effects of Indian classical dance forms on the body and mind of a learner and has also published a Book ‘ Indian Classical Dances – The Therapeutic Advantages.’ She has recently released 2 DVDs on understanding of Bharatnatyam and yogic aerobics. Guru Sudhakar has received many felicitations and awards. Prominent amongst them are national Swami Vivekananda award, Bharat excellence award, Fellowship from the ministry of culture, Nrithya Bhushan Nrithya Sadika, Nritya Vaibhavi, and excellent teachers award from Lions Club etc.
