Born in a small village Bekanal in Kolhapur, Anju Turambekar has become the youngest woman to become an AFC A license coach.
As a girl growing up in the village, she led a simple life, where gender roles were stiffly defined. "I started playing football in Class 10, and that was pretty late. It was a difficult choice," she says. She stared going to near by small town to complete her high schooling, when she was already developed interest in athletics. Completed 12 standard education from Gadhinglaj and then went to Pune university for the graduation, for Bachelor of physical education from Solapure university.
"My father was keen that I get into the police force, but I couldn't. I just wanted to play football," says the young player.
Currently working for the All India Football Federation, she has in the past played football at the university and national level. "Having faced many challenges in life, I gave up my dream of playing for India, but in a way, I have been close to the game by getting D, C, B and now A licence, and that's quite satisfying," she recalls.
After earning this degree, she is qualified to coach and looking forward to serve the country in all possible ways.
